The Duchess resides in one of Amsterdam’s best-kept historic gems; the former KAS Bank building, over a hundred years old. Tel Aviv-based architects Baranowitz + Kronenberg flawlessly orchestrated the architectural reuse of this nostalgic space into a grand brasserie, filled with drama and mystery. From the “Alice in Wonderland” tea room to the cubist broken mirror situated behind the bar – these post modern elements manage to coincide in perfect synchronicity, creating a new design narrative.
The magnificence of the original ornaments, the high ceilings and the accents of gold and marble gives the feeling one is dining in a beautiful public dance hall. This ambience made it very easy for the studio team to craft a corporate identity that speaks the language of extravagant opulence. It included the use of shiny black mirror coating, gold foil frames and creamy surfaces. The Duchess crown acts as the main symbol in this identity, and gives this establishment the ultimate signature it deserves.
